• The average age of software engineers at Amazon who are responsible for managing cloud networks and solutions is 40-45, says TechRepublic, reporting on the observations of industry researcher James Governor of RedMonk.
• Data provided by various sources, including PayScale, Facebook and Google place the average age of employees at leading tech companies between ages 28 and 39. The 2016 Stack Overflow developer survey puts the median age of developers at 27, most of them coding for around 10 years or more.
• According to TechRepublic, PayScale's data also shows that the median age of employees at HP, Oracle, IBM and Dell is also higher than the industry average at over 35 years old.

Companies like Amazon are at the forefront of cloud technology, so it's not surprising that they would want to increase diversity of hiring by targeting candidates at multiple levels of experience.

HR also must understand too that more older workers holding off on retirement and working longer too. There's a need to dig deeper into the data to discover how factors like ageism impact the corporate culture of organizations, and why diversity is a positive thing in the technology industry. 

Start-up technology firms can take cues from more established businesses by reaching out to seasoned engineers and offering them high-level positions where they can have an influence in the way cloud technology can be used.
