Dive Brief:
- Walmart is expanding employee access to the company’s proprietary, internal generative AI tool, CEO and President Doug McMilon said Tuesday at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Â
- In the year ahead, workers in 10 more countries will gain access to My Assistant, an internal tool Walmart employees access via the Me@Campus app. The expansion will give around 25,000 additional employees access to the tool, a spokesperson told CIO Dive.
- Employees will be able to use the tool in their native language to speed up text drafts, summarize large documents and enhance creativity, Walmart said.
Dive Insight:
When Walmart first introduced My Assistant to 50,000 employees in August, the retailer joined a growing list of enterprises equipping workers with generative AI capabilities customized to internal systems.Â
Now, that list is even longer, featuring more recent entrants such as P&G and Deloitte.Â
Even with a multitude of solutions hitting the market, many enterprises are leaning on a central conversational assistant as the primary way to scale generative AI capabilities across the business. The versatility of these tools, and the ability to fine-tune models to internal datasets, gives businesses the flexibility and control they need.
With the expanded international rollout, around 75,000 Walmart workers across 11 countries will have access to generative AI, though, it's still a sliver of its 2.1 million employees worldwide.
