As HR experts predicted, abortion access is affecting where job-seekers cast their net. According to data from Resume Builder, 32% of job-seekers won’t even consider working in a state that has banned abortion. That one-third figure remains consistent broken down by gender: 33% of women interviewed and 31% of men surveyed said they are only looking for jobs in states with abortion access.
Additionally, 27% of job-seekers who live in a restrictive state said they will only apply for jobs in states where abortion is — and likely to remain — legal. Notably, 66% of job-seekers in these states are pro-choice, according to Resume Builder.
More than political alignment, the interests of this contingent appear professionally motivated: Respondents seeking work in healthcare, education and life sciences were more likely to report job-searching in states with legal abortion.
HR folks can keep these stats in mind amid ongoing conversations about public diversity, equity and inclusion commitments, and the value there regarding employee attraction and retention.
