Dive Brief:
- Why break bread with colleagues when you can break dance? That's what one company did for team building, according to a survey of 400 U.S. advertising and marketing executives by The Creative Group, a specialized staffing service and a Robert Half Company.
- Advertising and marketing executives were asked, "What is the wackiest or most unusual team-building activity you've ever participated in or heard of a company participating in?"
- Answers ranged from a "dance off" to a painting class. Other approaches asked team members interesting questions, like "If you could be a vegetable, which one would you be?" and "If you had to change one thing about the world, what would it be?" Activities such as doing charity work, holding a cubicle decorating contest, and river rafting made the list.
Dive Insight:
HR executives looking for fun ways to break the ice when launching teams may come away with some good insights from this survey.
"Creative teams are busier than ever, but carving out time for 'structured play' can boost staff morale and collaboration," says Diane Domeyer, executive director of The Creative Group. "When choosing team-building events, employers should pick activities that support their business objectives, whether it's rewarding hard work, building rapport, improving communication or sparking creativity."
