- Because of the pandemic's impact, EEOC extended the data collection period this year from 10 weeks to 12 weeks to provide employers additional time to file the two years of data.
- The EEOC said it recommends that filers begin preparations to submit data in anticipation of the April 26 opening of the data collection period.
Dive Insight:
Because of the COVID-19 public health emergency, the collection of 2019 data was delayed last year, so this year, employers have to report data for two years.
The annual EEO-1 report collects workforce data from employers with 100 or more employees and certain contractors. It’s an annual survey of employment data organized by race and ethnicity, gender and job category, according to the EEOC.
The report has several components. Component 1 data includes information on the racial/ethnic and gender composition of an employer’s workforce by specific job categories. The agency added a pay data collection component in 2018, a decision that was opposed by many employers; that collection remains on hold and it remains to be seen whether EEOC will again require such information. EEO-3 collects "reports from all Local Union which indicate the composition for their work forces by sex and by race/ethnic category," and EEO-5 requests similar information from all public elementary and secondary school districts. EEO-5 and EEO-3 component filings for 2020 are due in July and August respectively.
The EEOC does not release EEO-1 data for specific employers it publishes only large-scale aggregated EEO-1 data.
