Dive Brief:
- Monster's year-end look at hiring and job searching in 2018 found that construction- and trade-oriented industries accounted for much of the hiring in 2018, according to its 2018 The Year in Jobs Report. Sales and marketing was the top hiring area in 10 states, while computer, information technology and mathematics jobs led in nine other states and Washington, D.C.
- Resume postings on Monster occurred 24/7, but most job seekers posted resumes around 11 a.m. and peaked at mid-week, Vicki Salemi, a Monster career expert, said. The report also broke down 2018 hiring and searching activity by state, cities, title searches and word searches.
- Monster's report cited predictions from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics that employment of HR managers will grow 9% by 2026, especially within healthcare and professional services.
Dive Insight:
Online job boards have become integral to both job seekers and recruiters. A recent Adtaxi study found that 59% of workers will use a job board like Monster or Indeed to search for new opportunities. Monster's finding that most job seekers posted resumes to job boards in the middle of the work day may cause bosses to shake their heads, but the information may also be useful to recruiters who need to schedule posts and ads.
Hiring managers may be cautioned by an SAP survey that revealed 82% of respondents struggled to manage company postings on multiple job boards. In an employee's job market, businesses need to prioritize the candidate experience. That means providing job seekers accurate and timely information at all stages of the hiring process — even the initial, prospective stages that occur within a job board.
