Dive Brief:
- The EEOC has officially mailed its 2016 EEO-1 survey notification letters, it announced yesterday.
- The EEO-1 is an annual survey that requires all private employers with 100 or more employees and federal government contractors or first-tier subcontractors with 50 or more employees and a contract/subcontract of $50,000 or more to file data on employment categorized by race/ethnicity, gender and job category.
- According to the EEOC, the report is used by researchers, private attorneys, human resource staff, etc. in developing affirmative action plans, and in the Commission’s enforcement of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. Earlier this year, the EEOC proposed adding pay data to the requirements.
Dive Insight:
Deidre Flippen, director of the office of research, information and planning, said new enhancements for uploading EEO-1 data files mean that employers will be able to to test and upload their data files without needing to email data files or wait for confirmation. She adds that the new method of submitting data files will save time and provide employers with immediate notification of any errors requiring corrections. "This should go a long way toward helping employers to meet the Sept. 30 deadline,” Flippen said.
New changes were proposed, including adding pay data to the EEO-1, that may impact next year's filings. Some experts criticized this potential new proposal, saying it failed to take into account some of the many comments from the employer community.
