As the skills gap looms and talent shortages persist, companies are looking for new ways to find workers, particularly for trades careers. Increasingly, employers are partnering with — or even creating their own — apprenticeship programs to connect with younger workers and extend their talent pipelines.
In particular, many of the latest apprenticeship initiatives are aimed at building bridges to underrepresented and underserved communities, such as workers with criminal records, as well as job seekers looking for nontraditional roles, including temporary and contract work.
Across the board, today’s apprenticeship programs are focused on skills-based design and upskilling workers with hands-on, on-the-job training and peer mentorship. Workers are learning the skills to set them up for the future — as employers benefit through greater engagement, higher productivity and reduced attrition.
