Employers, courts and federal agencies resolved a wide range of bias claims last month, including allegations of discrimination in benefits, concerted activity and leave.
While compliance responsibilities and diversity, equity and inclusion efforts often live with different people at a company — and sometimes even different departments — the two often intersect.
As described in one of the stories below, for example, the government alleged widespread sex-based harassment at National Raisin. The company resolved the claims for $2 million last month. To prevent such conduct, employment law attorneys and HR experts often recommend DEI training.
At the same time, employers are grappling with claims spurred by DEI efforts. Last month also brought a potential end to a lawsuit alleging Pfizer’s diverse fellowship ran afoul of federal nondiscrimination law. An appeals court said the plaintiff — an advocacy organization — failed to identify anyone harmed by the fellowship’s parameters.
Below are more in-depth looks into those resolutions and others that made headlines in March.
