Dive Brief:
- HR professionals who feel the weight of the world on their shoulders should identify with HR software startup Gusto's new brand campaign. Titled "HR People Do Everything," the campaign stars actress/comedian Kristen Schaal as an HR admin with an endless list of things to do, employees to help and hats to wear.
- The company surveyed 100 HR professionals as part of their latest branding efforts, asking participants to describe the details of their job on a day-by-day basis. A quarter of respondents said they doubled as recruiters, while 43% viewed themselves as "keepers of their company culture."
- Gusto worked with creative agency Erich & Kallman to produce the campaign, which includes a short online video series viewable on YouTube and Facebook.
Dive Insight:
At the risk of preaching to the choir, it's fair to say Gusto has captured a generally accurate picture of the sometimes Herculean amount of tasks HR leaders are asked to handle, and there's little doubt that profession as whole has required quite a bit of adaptability on the part of practitioners.
Some believe HR is undervalued by certain industries, particularly among startups. Even so, it's a job that most working in the industry feel secure about. Indeed, 75% of HR professionals surveyed by the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) reported confidence in job security.
