Dive Brief:
- According to a 2014 report by Forrester Research, the public cloud market is estimated to reach $191 billion by 2020, a significant climb from $58 billion in 2013.
- An entrepreneur.com piece states that, where HR is concerned, the cloud just makes sense. Implementing a cloud-based HR system helps ease some of the stress associated with a growing business and its growing HR needs.
- The writer cites increased mobility and flexibility, easy implementation and innovation, and data is safe (when hosted properly and diligently) as the three main reasons why HR in the cloud is a solid strategy.
Dive Insight:
No doubt the cloud is a great technology within which HR can float, but HR leaders should proceed with caution, especially when it comes to data security risks (it seems just about anyone can be hacked these days) and failing to plan for the unexpected, such as a cloud provider network crash without built-in redundancy and fault tolerance.
On the other hand, HR moving to the cloud seems pretty much inevitable, according to experts.
