Dive Brief:
- Video platform Vimeo announced Sept. 23 a new tool to help employers find and hire freelance video experts. According to Vimeo, the platform provides a "For Hire" marketplace that allows companies, agencies, brands and anyone who's looking to produce high-quality videos to find the best talent for the job.
- Users can post project requests, browse the platform's global talent network, and connect with videographers, editors, filmmakers, animators and other professionals, Vimeo said. Video freelance professionals can look for job openings in line with their expertise and find paying projects, said Vimeo, which takes no fee or commission.
- "Every business, brand and agency today faces hurdles in producing video at scale," Anjali Sud, Vimeo's CEO, said in a media release. "They have a continuous need to make high-quality content on a frequent basis. Right now, they rely on informal networks and word-of-mouth to find the right people to make those videos — which is time-consuming and inefficient."
Dive Insight:
Organizations are using video as a prime tool for recruiting and marketing. In fact, a survey by staffing agency Mondo found that video marketing is a top priority for companies in 2019 to 2020. The study showed that the top video marketing tool respondents planned to invest in was Instagram Stories. Newsfeed videos, cinemagraphs, GIFs and live streaming were also popular formats.
Video is becoming an effective tool for recruiting, so much so that Monster allows recruiters to develop, edit and publish video job descriptions through Monster Studios, the job board's recruiting video app. Monster said that videos are an effective way for recruiters to showcase a company's brand, work environment and the job opening's advantages.
"Video allows a company to create a more complete view into a job which drives better connections and fit throughout the process," Scott Gutz, Monster's CEO, said in a press statement when the platform was announced in May.
For organizations who want to differentiate themselves in the competition for talent by developing video job descriptions, or for those recruiters looking to source videographers to assist with other organizational video needs, Vimeo's targeted talent network could be one place to source workers with these skills.
